An English musicologist discovers an audio tape of mesmerizing music that leads him to the salt marshes of Florida where he finds the source of "the music of the grass."
City boy Scott Turtin is also headed to the sawgrass country, to reconcile with his old man, a retired oyster digger. They cross paths with the Englishman and questions arise about the father's relationship to the group that holds the music sacred.
An encounter with the cult leader results in danger for father, son and hapless Englishman. The music of the grass is powerful persuasion and the swamp people will do anything to keep it.
